Joffrey Ballet School Coming to Vibe Performing Arts

8/1/2014

Picture
We are excited to announce a collaboration between Vibe Performing Arts and Joffrey Ballet School in New York!

Due to the high level of technical and performance excellence our dancers display, Joffrey Ballet School has exclusively requested to come to our studio to work with our staff and students.  This is a rare and unique opportunity, as Joffrey is extremely selective in who they work with and train.

With that said, we are pleased to announce we will be hosting a Master Joffrey Ballet School Instructor to teach a contemporary master class at Vibe on November 1!   As a benefit of being a member of the Pulse Performing Company, this amazing opportunity is exclusive to Pulse Members as part of their advanced training program. This exposure to a Joffrey Ballet School Master Instructor may potentially lead to summer program scholarships at Joffrey Ballet School in New York.

We are proud of our students and staff for receiving this acknowledgement, and are honored to have been selected by Joffrey
Ballet School for this incredible opportunity!

Can anyone dance at Vibe?

9/8/2013

We've had many people ask us "How good of a dancer do I need to be to dance at Vibe?"  The short answer is:  You can be at any skill level to dance at Vibe, as we offer classes for a wide spectrum of ages and skill levels!

We have classes for the most advanced dancers, as well as the recreational dancer—giving opportunities for all to shine.  Many studios will simply lump kids together by age, without regard for skill level simply because this requires more effort on behalf of the studio staff.  We, at Vibe, take a different approach, and invest the additional time and resources into your children to place them into classes with similarly skilled students.  Placing by skill allows student to be more comfortable, and prevents  overwhelming or even underwhelming, and allows them to build confidence.  This, in turn, facilitates the process of skill development.

When there is talk about “how good” someone is, one should remember that “Good" is a relative term based upon someone's opinion of where one stands in a category based upon some criteria established by someone or something.  “Good” is many tiimes overused much like other superlatives such as: best, smartest, prettiest, among others, and we know those descriptors are subjective in nature, are not always the most accurate.  We tell our dancers to focus on what they can do and always strive to make a better "you"—and that we certainly can help make happen!

Exceptional Teachers in a Positive Setting

6/12/2013

When we created Vibe, we set out to deliver “exceptional teachers and peers in a positive and inspiring setting in order to maximize their confidence” to Gettysburg, Hanover, and surrounding areas.   Judging by the rave reviews of our initial “not a recital” show on Sunday, along with top awards at competitions this past year, we have certainly proven we have delivered exceptional teachers!  But, what is even more important than simply teaching the technical skills is the creation of a positive and inspiring setting for children to thrive in--a place they can go to let all of life’s stresses disappear.  Below is a testimonial, which we’d like to share with all of you, validating that we—all of the Vibe family—are doing just that, as it is not just Vibe employees creating this environment, but each and every one of the parents and students, as well!

We wanted to take a minute to say thank you to the entire Vibe staff for a fantastic year! When we switched to Vibe last summer we were simply looking for somewhere better than where we had been. We were in no way prepared for both the
sense of professionalism and camaraderie that we encountered throughout the year. From the directors to the instructors and the student helpers, we have never encountered anything but positivity. Our encounters with other parents have been equally positive. For the countless times we have heard parents praise others children, or seen them jump in to assist another child, never once have we heard a parent say a single negative word in regards to any child, situation or staff member. The absolute care and concern we witnessed this weekend from staff members, as well as the girls themselves was absolutely heartwarming. From the obvious passion the instructors have for their students and their sport, to
the big girls helping out the little ones, to parents dressing and prepping other people's children, we were absolutely blown away by the positivity and love that surrounded the entire event.

As a parent whose never danced, I always viewed dancing as an individual sport, but this weekend the dancers truly showed us that they are very much a united team all the way from the most advanced dancers down to the littlest girls. Their
talent was equally amazing and as a mom it was fascinating to watch my little dancer sit mesmerized throughout the entire show. After months of telling me she didn't ever want to try hip hop because they "dress like boys" she has been begging me nonstop since Sunday to sign her up because "boy clothes are ok because the dancing is way cool." That is the highest of compliments from my 5 yr. old fashionista!

My daughter can be a funny child...sometimes painfully shy and other times the wild little firecracker we see at home. After 3 yrs. at the same preschool with the same teachers she still hadn't completely come out of her shell. In soccer and gymnastics she is fairly reserved. While not quite the wild woman we have at home, Vibe is the one place that she seems most comfortable and like herself. We feared that her shyness would kick in Sunday and that she would freeze but she proved us wrong and excitedly informed us that dancing on the big stage was the "most awesomest thing ever!"  Thank you all for providing such a warm and nurturing environment, for setting such an incredible example, and for providing
such good role models for all of our children. As parents we got far more than simply better than where we were when we made the switch to Vibe.

Thank you again from our family to the entire Vibe family.

With  love,
Sabrina  and Paul

We again  thank everyone for all the positive influences you all have on the  students!  Do you have your own story you'd like to share?  Let us know, and we will gladly share it!

The Pulse Takes Top Awards at Philadelphia, Lancaster Regional Competitions

4/24/2013

Vibe students posing with judges after securing the Teachers Award
The Pulse competition team, competed in the All American Talent regional competitions in King of Prussia and Lancaster over the past several months.  The two day events featured studios from the PA, NY, NJ, MD, and DE areas.  The guest judges for the competitions are professionals in the talent industry, who have worked with celebrities such as Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Toni Braxton, Will Smith, and more.

At both competitions, Pulse Dancers earned top scores in most categories in which they were entered.  They also earned the coveted "Teacher Award" in both competitions, which goes to the studio earning the most high scores across all categories.  As a result of the successful showing, many Pulse dancers qualified for Nationals in Atlantic City in July.

The success was apparent across all age groups, including solo acts, duos and trios, and groups ranging from the "Sea Cruise" predancers all the way to the advanced hip hop "Krazy".  Visit our Social Media page to see some of the routines.  At one point another studio owner from a studio in the Philadelphia area asked us how we are able to have such talented and disciplined younger dancers.  Our response was simple:  It is our Ballet development system which focuses heavily on proper ballet technique.

If you want to be part of THE PULSE, auditions will be held during our summer intensive week August 5.

Special Visit from Dance Moms Miami

2/1/2013

Picture
Back in December, Vibe students attended "Turn it Up" dance convention in Lancaster, PA.  One of our instructors--Sarah, and a student--Maggie, were selected to be assistant instructors at the convention.   At the convention, both Sarah and Maggie assisted Victor Smalley (@VictorSmalley) and Angel Armas (@AngelArmas), who are stars on the hit cable TV show, Dance Moms Miami.  They were so impressed with not only our instructors, but also our students, so when both Victor and Angel knew they were goinig to be in our area, they called Vibe to see if they could come by and do a Master Class at our studio.

Tonight, we were so happy to be able to pull together (on short notice) a meet and greet and Master Class with these amazing dancers!  The meet and greet was a great success, with a huge line of students (shown in picture) wrapping through the studio, with ages starting at young as 4 years old!  After the meet and greet, we had over 40 advanced dancers join us from studios in Westminster, Hanover, York, Gettysburg, among others places for what was an AMAZING night to be at The Vibe!

We are truly thankful we are able to provide so many opportunities to promote the arts in the Gettysburg and Hanover areas!

Happy New Years (Resolution)

12/29/2012

Are you making a New Years Resolution to get in shape or to shed some of
those extra pounds?  We can help you attain your goals with fitness options
6 days per week!  We offer classes in Pilates, Zumba, and even a Boot
Camp!!!!

Zumba

Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and
international beats. Before participants know it, they’re getting fit and their
energy levels are soaring! There’s no other fitness class like a Zumba. It’s
easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating, often building a deep-rooted
community among returning students.   Zumba is offered 3 times per
week, Monday at 5:30, Wednesday at 7:30, and Saturday at 10:00.

Pilates and Fitness

Pilates workouts focus first on developing strength through the core of the
body--the back, abdomen and hips. This provides a foundation to continue working
the rest of the body. The concentration is not only on strength but also
flexibility and coordination.  Classes will also move into light weight
training exercises.  Pilates is offered 4 times per week,  Tuesday at
11:00 AM and 7:30 PM, Thursday at 11:00 AM, and Friday at 5:30 PM

Boot Camp

Boot Camp is a challenging workout for your entire body. It will help to burn
fat, increase your endurance, strength, and improve your balance/flexibility. It
involves a wide variety of interval training using free-weights, body-weight,
pushups/situps, plyometrics, drills and explosive routines (such as jump
squats). Class can consist of working as an individual and/or in teams.  A
typical Boot Camp class will burn between 400 and 500 calories!  Boot Camp
is an 8 week program, running on Wednesday nights at 7:30 between January 7 and
February 27.  Although it is not necessary to commit to all sessions, to
get the full benefit, it is highly recommended to attend all sessions.

Our fitness programs do not require a monthly membership and have no long
term commitments.  You can drop in, or use a Vibe Fitness punch card which
can be used for all fitness classes.  Check us out and let us help YOU attain your goals!!!

Zumba Success Story

10/23/2012

At Vibe, we have two regular Zumba Instructors, Collen and Stacey--who both have
their own unique teaching styles and reasons for becoming Zumba certified.  For
Colleen, it is a truly inspirational story.  The following paragraphs were written by Collen explaing her story of huge successes through Zumba.

“I need to do something!”  That is what I told myself November 1, 2010. I decided to try a month gym  membership and see what changes I could make. Little did I know that decision would in fact change my life. I entered the YWCA with the idea that I would do the elliptical and lift some weights, which I did, but as I was leaving I saw a Zumba fitness class was about to begin. I had never heard of Zumba fitness and had absolutely no idea what to expect. I walked in and like many newcomers found a place in the back row. Jess was the instructor and asked if anyone was new and as I shyly raised my hand I was told to watch her feet and the rest would come later. After my first class I was hooked! I couldn’t wait to come back! My month
membership quickly turned into a year membership. I started going to classes  each night and appreciated the different styles of both the instructors; Jess and Tara. Variety with some similarities is one thing that Zumba fitness offered
that allowed me to never get bored, yet become familiar with the basic moves in
order to make it beneficial for me.

I began going to different classes in the area and in Eastern Pennsylvania while I was visiting my boyfriend, Nate. I had gradually moved my way from the ‘newbies back row’ to become a ‘front row diva’. After classes I had quite a few people tell me they had watched me in class or told me how great of a job I was doing. That
acknowledgement alone was extremely motivating and left me feeling very
confident. It was after I had finished a class that I had a conversation with
Nate and he said to me “Why don’t you just become an instructor?”  I realized
that this easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-party
had honestly changed my life, helped me lose 62 pounds and become an all around healthier and happier person. I decided right then and there that I wanted to
motivate others to do the same! After some encouraging words from my family and
friends I presented them with the idea. I went onto the website and found an
instructor training that worked for me. I was a bit nervous that I would not enjoy instructing as much I did simply taking that class, but that worry quickly vanished. It was a somewhat challenging beginning, but I was lucky enough to have the help of other instructors and my fantastic sister, Danielle.

Zumba fitness is my escape from all the stresses in life. I became an instructor simply because I had a passion for Zumba fitness and feel that I am proof that is does work. I was a 210 pound somewhat uncoordinated person with no previous dance or fitness background, but found something that motivated me. I hope that if you have a passion for something that you too will not just be part of the crowd but break out and motivate others. If I can do it, so can you!

Vibe offers Zumba on Mondays at 5:30, Wednesdays at 7:30, and Saturday mornings at 10:00.

Why are the dance floors raised?

10/14/2012

We have had many questions regarding the dance floors in our studios.  We get questions such as:  “Why is the dance floor raised?” and “What is the dance surface made of?”.  I hope the following can explain the answers to both of those questions.

In many types of dance, dancers will need to do leaps, and in doing so, will place stress on leg joints such as the ankles, knees and hips.  When these activities are done repetitively, particularly when dancing directly on hardwood or concrete surfaces without “bounce”, can cause hampering injuries, such as shin splints, patellar tendinitis (jumpers knee),  sprains, strains, and much more.

Enter the  “sprung floor”.  A sprung floor is a floating floor that has some spring to it.  The floors are designed to have some
“give” to it, so that when dancers land from a leap, the floor will absorb much of the shock associated with the impact with the floor.  This absorption will greatly reduce the chance of injury to the dancer.

The sprung floors at Vibe consist of 4 layers.  The first layer is blocks of high density foam, placed in a grid throughout the entire studio floor area.  This foam is the main technology behind the “spring” in the floor.  It is dense enough to hold the weight of many dancers at the same time, yet soft enough to absorb shock from a leap from heights.  The foam also has great memory to flex back to its original shape after taking a shock—which keeps the floor at a universal level plane, regardless of frequency of use. The second and third layers of the floor are wood sheets, interleaved to give the floor rigidity.

The final layer is the top dance surface, called a Marley floor. The Marley floor is a vinyl covering commonly found in many high-end studios and theatres.  The Marley floor is a non-slip surface engineered for dancing. The non-slip property is also a great safety measure for dancers so they do not injure themselves by slipping when landing from jumps.

I hope now you have gained some insight into the technology behind dance floors.  I also hope you can now answer the questions of why the dance floor is raised, and what the properties of the dance surface are!
